First Shabby Chic Vintage Boutique Stall

A fabulous sunny day in Holmes Chapel on bank holiday weekend, granted I was the most expensive stall at the Village fair but it was great getting out there and getting face to face feedback on my furniture designs. Luckily they were very positive and I have had some great emails following the fair.

Here are my tips for anyone thinking of doing the same.

1. One thing I will say is to make sure you have a gazebo for any wind or rain that may pop up!
2. Take a chair for those quiet moments.
3. Make sure all your items are labelled with the price.
4. Try to arrange items so customers can move through them and see items easily.
5. Take business cards or slips with your website details and give them out.
6. Be chatty and smile!

The Apprentice 'Junk Shop Task - EPIC FAIL!

I was looking forward to the BBC’s Apprentice episode featuring the Vintage and Retro goods buying and selling task. What a disappointment! Seriously these people assume that upcycling is just a matter of stencils and stapling fabric to a random piece of furniture.
IF ONLY!
Firstly you need to have the creativity and flare to be able to sift through the junk to find the real gem’s of classic vintage furniture. Secondly a lot of time to prepare the piece, for example, stripping, sanding, screwing, filling and several layers of undercoat. Before your piece of furniture is returned to a blank canvas state. Now you can stand back and get creative! Endless possibilities of paint finishes, colours and effects. Plus if you are going to add fabric a sewing machine is a must (Not simply botched staples!) I myself use a retro 1950′s machine.
